Jose Cordoba jets into Glasgow as Rangers transfer edges closer at Ibrox

Jose Cordoba is flying into Glasgow to complete a medical ahead of a proposed move to Rangers, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper has reported in its print edition [page 44, 28 May] that the 22-year-old has already been to Ibrox and was shown around during the 4-1 win over Kilmarnock on 5 May.

Following his medical, Cordoba will link up with the Panama national team ahead of this summer’s Copa America and World Cup Qualifiers.

Will Jose Cordoba be a good signing for Rangers?

Rangers will be pleased to be on the cusp of wrapping up a transfer so soon after the conclusion of the season.

Cordoba’s national team commitments this summer likely make it imperative to secure his signature before he travels to Central America – which the Gers look set to do.

The Levski Sofia central defender has certainly made a strong impression in Bulgaria since arriving in the country – initially with another club, Etar – in January 2021 as a fresh-faced 19-year-old, still six months shy of his 20th birthday.

Despite his youth, Cordoba has made over 100 senior appearances in his time in Bulgaria – 19 with Etar and 90 for Levski Sofia.

That marriage of youth and experience – coupled with his profile as a left-footed central defender – could make him a shrewd addition at Ibrox.

In other news, Keith Jackson has mooted a “serious issue” inside the Gers dressing room.
