Ianis Hagi decision was ‘Uninspired’ after Rangers transfer update
Rangers playmaker Ianis Hagi returns to Ibrox following a forgettable loan spell at Alaves, and a Romanian former goalkeeper thinks the move was “uninspired”.
Razvan Plesca, speaking on the Romanian Football Show, thought that Hagi would have been given more opportunities to impress at Rangers this season than he did in 25 appearances for the La Liga side.
Hagi’s game-time at Ibrox had been decreasing during each of his last three seasons with the club, before being loaned out at the start of the 2023-24 campaign by previous manager Michael Beale.
In quotes reported by the Rangers Review, Plesca said: “I think it was an uninspired decision.
“He had to stay because Rangers also played in the Europa League, they also have the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup, after the coach changed.
“I think he would have certainly (got) more moments at Rangers than he did at Alaves.”
Does Ianis Hagi have a future at Ibrox?
Rangers have a lot of business to wade through this summer as players come, players go, and loanees return to the club looking to make an impact in Philippe Clement’s first off-season at the club.
Hagi is one of those players set to be back at Ibrox in the coming weeks, but unlike Utrecht loanee Sam Lammers, has not hit the heights expected of him at Alaves.

The Romanian midfielder has always played in the shadow of his father Gheorghe’s name, making him stand out on any team sheet he appears, but that’s not stood him in good stead in recent seasons.
Although Clement has been urged by some pundits to give players like Lammers a second chance, very little has been made of Hagi’s prospects, and links to his father’s former club Galatasaray represent a sensible exit strategy.
This summer will be the one in which Clement truly puts his stamp on things at Rangers, and the onus is now on Hagi to prove that he has what it takes to be part of a title-challenging squad next season.
In other Rangers news, one talkSPORT pundit has mooted an “astonishing” Ibrox exit this summer.
