Todd Cantwell summer exit verdict shared as Rangers reshape squad

Chris Jack is “not convinced” by Todd Cantwell and believes he could be sold by Rangers in the summer transfer window.

Cantwell was a big hit upon joining from Norwich City in the second half of last season, but he struggled for large parts of the 2023-24 campaign.

Rangers are expected to reshape their squad over the summer, and journalist Jack would not be surprised if Cantwell is among those to depart.

Speaking on The Rangers Review [27 May, 23m 51s], Jack said: “Cantwell seems to split so much opinion.

“Some are big fans of him, others think he flatters to deceive. For me, there’s definitely room for improvement.

“Whether Cantwell can get himself to that level, I’m not convinced. You look at him as someone who could potentially move on.”

Does Todd Cantwell have a Rangers future?

Cantwell is certainly one of those who blows hot and cold. On his day, he is one of the best attacking midfielders in the league.

However, there were far too many off-days this past season and Philippe Clement is clearly not that convinced by him.

The Englishman failed to turn up in too many big games, not least the trophy deciders with Celtic, and that is never a promising sign.

Having Cantwell as part of the squad would be an ideal situation; a player who can be brought on in games and start every one in three.

However, the Gers will need to raise funds if they are to sign a better player, and they therefore cannot afford to sit on him, so to speak.

With a bit of luck, the club can raise some funds by selling Cantwell and bring in a player who is far more consistent in the final third.
