Rangers transfer blow as spanner in the works thrown on finances at Ibrox
Rangers may be forced to alter their transfer plans this summer as Leeds United suffered defeat against Southampton on Sunday, 26 May.
With that result, Southampton secured promotion to the Premier League while Leeds had to settle for a spot in the Championship next season.
According to the Daily Record on 26 May, the result meant that Gers missed out on a windfall, understood to be around £500k, from Glen Kamara not sealing the win for his side.
Rangers fail to get windfall from Glen Kamara joining Leeds United
Last summer, when the Finland international moved to Elland Road for £5million, a clause was inserted that would see Gers receiving a bonus payment if the Whites returned to the English top flight in the 2023/24 season.
However, that will not happen and this could make things harder for the Ibrox outfit in the transfer market.
This could lead to a more conservative approach, perhaps focusing on fewer or lower-profile signings, or even requiring the sale of existing players to fund new acquisitions.
Rangers may face difficulties in the transfer window
The impact could be particularly felt in their pursuit of top targets or in their ability to compete with other clubs for sought-after players.
Ultimately, the missed windfall could force Gers to be more resourceful and strategic in their approach to the upcoming transfer window.
There were some discrepancies over the price of Jose Cordoba and oftentimes, clubs fail to complete the deals because of six-figure sums.
Gers and the fans will be hoping that Kamara’s loss in the final does not have a severe impact on the window.
In other Rangers news, another first-team player is now set to seal Ibrox as the summer exodus continues.
