Rangers defender Leon Balogun behind-the-scenes update emerges on future
Formalities are now being tied up behind the scenes with Rangers defender Leon Balogun on course to sign a new deal, according to the Daily Mail.
The news outlet reported on 27 May that the 35-year-old will be committing another year to the Ibrox outfit.
His contract was running out at the end of June but he will sign a new one keeping him in Glasgow until 2025.
Leon Balogun must not be more than a backup for Rangers
Balogun’s contract extension at Ibrox is a testament to his valuable contributions to the team, despite his age and the fact that he may not be considered a first-choice player.
His experience and performances have been crucial, particularly towards the end of the season, which likely influenced the decision to offer him a new deal.
However, it’s clear that Rangers need to bolster their defensive options for the upcoming season.
Balogun, at 35, is past his prime and should not be relied upon as a first-choice centre-back.
The club should look to bring in one or two top centre-backs during the summer transfer window to strengthen their defence.
This would not only provide healthy competition within the squad but also ensure that the team is well-equipped to compete at the highest level.

As for Ben Davies, given Balogun’s new deal and Jose Cordoba seemingly walking through the door, he could be sold this summer.
In other Rangers news, a player has already bid farewell to his teammates as Gers look to complete yet another summer transfer.
