Todd Cantwell may be part of Rangers transfer exodus after ‘senseless’ scenes in loss v Celtic
Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell may be sweating on his future at Ibrox following the Gers’ Scottish Cup defeat to Celtic.
For much of the 1-0 defeat at Hamdpen on Saturday (25 May), the Englishman was one of the Light Blues’ better players as he battled both in and out of possession and got on the ball in some good areas.
However, his temper got the better of him as he was booked in “senseless” circumstances according to Leanne Crichton as he continued to scuffle with the Hoops after he had already been substituted.
That wasn’t the end of the midfielder’s antics however as he continued to argue with the officials following the full-time whistle, with footage emerging on social media of a fuming Clement pushing the star away from the referee [danilo99szn, 25 May].
Will Rangers and Philippe Clement sell Todd Cantwell during the summer transfer window?
When Clement first arrived in Glasgow, there was a lot of talk from pundits and supporters alike who believed that the Belgian wasn’t a fan of the Englishman as he repeatedly played him out of position and hooked him early in matches.
Whether or not that speculation was based on any truth or not isn’t known, but it is clear that Cantwell has an attitude that isn’t particularly appreciated by his manager.
Clement has also repeatedly insisted that he is looking to make wholesale changes this summer as he attempts to transform this Rangers side into a genuine title challenger.
After his senseless antics during Sunday’s match and following the full-time whistle partnered with his ‘Shushburger’ post after the Light Blues’ draw with Hearts at Tynecastle, you have to wonder if the Gers boss will be looking to sell Cantwell this summer.
The 26-year-old has only managed eight goals and six assists in 44 appearances in all competitions this season. As a sellable asset, it could be best for all parties if the Gers try and move him on this summer.
Every time he steps on the field in a Rangers shirt at the moment, he manages to find a way to embrace the club and the supporters.
The manager is clearly at the end of his tether and it would be best for everyone if he was sold when the window opens.
