Rangers to fight off late hijack in multi-million Jose Cordoba deal after Ibrox visit
Rangers may be facing late competition in their bid to sign Panama defender Jose Cordoba, according to The Sunday Mail.
The print edition of the publication [26 May, page 62] claims newly promoted Turkish Super Lig outfit Eyupspor have become late runners in the race for Cordoba’s signature, which last week seemed almost a formality for Philippe Clement.
Cordoba, valued at £3million by Bulgarian club Levski Sofia, has visited Ibrox ahead of a potential move and was set for a medical but now the Light Blues must remain on their guard to capture their man.
The report read: “While they remain favourites to tie up a deal, Gers may have to fight off a late bid from [Turkiye].”
Rangers must stand firm to secure Cordoba
With Rangers undergoing one of the busiest squad overhauls of all major European clubs this summer, selling clubs maintain a strong hand.
The situation with Cordoba now plays perfectly into Levski’s lap with several suitors for the defender, potentially requiring the Gers to have to fork out an extra million or two.
Norwich City have also been credited with an interest in the 22-year-old following Championship play-off anguish, building a problem Rangers are likely to have to navigate with the recruitment of numerous targets throughout the summer.

The 12-cap Panama international is still understood to favour a switch to Ibrox, but now Rangers find themselves sweating over the fate of a player who looked a dead-cert to become the club’s second signing of the transfer window.
It’s now over to Clement and his staff to identify whether their package on the table to Cordoba is worth prioritising over the alternatives.
In other Rangers news, footage has emerged of an interaction between Clement and Todd Cantwell from the Scottish Cup final.
