Fabio Silva blasted as ‘weak’ after what Wolves loanee did in Rangers loss v Celtic
Gary Keown believes Fabio Silva is “too expensive” and ultimately not worth keeping around at Rangers.
The Gers were beaten 1-0 by Celtic in the Scottish Cup final on Saturday (25 May), with Adam Idah scoring a last-gasp winner for the Hoops.
Following the defeat, Keown has singled out Silva for criticism in his column for the Scottish Mail on Sunday (pages 98 & 99, 26 May).
The journalist wrote, “He (Silva) had a clear shot at goal, but his sidefooted effort was weak and easily dealt with by Hart, given a much smoother ride into retirement than he should have been.
“Silva is too expensive to keep. And not worth keeping.”
Philippe Clement is unlikely to make a move for Fabio Silva at Rangers
Silva’s loan spell at Ibrox is now officially over.
While the Rangers board aren’t going to make their decision based on what Keown has written, they will likely reach the same outcome which the journalist has suggested.
When a player arrives somewhere on loan, their primary aim should be to wow both those watching back at their parent club and their new temporary side.
Four goals in 18 Scottish Premiership appearances isn’t wowing anyone.
Wolves paid £35million when they signed Silva from Porto (Sky Sports News, 5 September 2020).
And the Gers shouldn’t be considering an offer anywhere near that price point.

Had Silva come into the club and set Scottish football alight, then perhaps Philippe Clement would have a decision to make.
But he hasn’t, and the Gers should simply view the 21-year-old as Wolves’ problem now.
Rangers need a reliable goalscorer, and Silva is not the man to turn to.
