Rangers offer Liam Kelly three-year contract as double Ibrox exit mooted – Chris Jack
Rangers have offered Liam Kelly a three-year contract to move to Ibrox this summer with Robby McCrorie and Jon McLaughlin expected to leave, according to Chris Jack.
Writing on the Rangers Review website (24 May), the reliable journalist reports that the club have offered the soon-to-be free agent a contract to come in and act as back-up for Jack Butland next season following his Motherwell exit.
And Philippe Clement’s side are in pole position for his signature, with current number two McCrorie set to leave in search of regular first-team football while veteran McLaughlin will be allowed to leave when his contract expires at the end of the month.
Rangers being sensible with their early transfer business
It seems as though the Ibrox board have taken on board what Clement wants from the club, and they’re moving quickly to address problem areas before they become problems.
Jefte was confirmed as a Rangers player on Friday (23 May) on a four-year deal before Borna Barisic’s exit has been made official, meaning the squad won’t be short at left-back, while Jose Cordoba is expected to follow shortly at centre-back where there is currently an abundance of options.
The club still currently have three goalkeepers on the books too, but that hasn’t stopped them moving to bring Kelly in to get ahead of the curve.
A deal is expected to be done for the Auchenhowie graduate, and he will come in knowing exactly what is expected of him.
It also means that if Butland is to leave this summer, the club at least have someone with experience ready to step in until they get a replacement in, which means they shouldn’t be left wanting at any point.
In other Rangers news, the club want to sign a new striker ahead of Celtic in what would be a club-record deal.
