Rangers likely to sign Liam Kelly before Euro 2024 as contract offer made – Chris Jack
Rangers are likely to complete the signing of Liam Kelly on a free transfer before the start of Euro 2024, according to Chris Jack.
Writing on the Rangers Review website (24 May), the reliable journalist reports that the Ibrox club have tabled a three-year contract offer for the Motherwell captain who will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
And a deal could move quickly for the Scotland international, with the goalkeeper likely to go to Euro 2024 as a Rangers player, if selected again.
Rangers goalkeeper situation needs sorting quickly
There are several areas of the squad at Ibrox that need to be addressed this summer, and goalkeeper is certainly one of them.
There is some talk that Jack Butland wants to leave the club, with Arnaud Bodart linked as a replacement, while Robby McCrorie and Jon McLaughlin look likely to exit the club too in search of more regular football.
Even without Butland leaving, the other two heading out means that acquisitions are necessary to replenish the squad and ensure that Philippe Clement isn’t left short.
With Euro 2024 due to start in just a few weeks, there is clearly plenty of positivity around this transfer getting done at Ibrox and fans should be pleased.
An academy graduate returning to help the club in a tough time and providing competition is always a good thing and on a free it’s hard to complain about it.
In other Rangers news, Clement is close to sealing a double swoop for new backroom staff.
