Neil Lennon makes incredible Rangers and Celtic admission ahead of Scottish Cup final

Neil Lennon has admitted that it is “incredible” Rangers and Celtic haven’t met in a Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park for over two decades.

Philippe Clement’s side face their Glasgow rivals at Hamdpen Park on Saturday (25 May) in the Scottish Cup final as they look to secure a domestic double and win their first Old Firm clash under the Belgian’s management.

While the pressure is on Clement to break the deadlock and finish the season on a high, Lennon has been left surprised by the fact the last Old Firm cup final was so long ago that he was still playing for the Hoops.

Speaking on Premier Sports (25 May) he said: “On today’s game, I can’t believe it has been 22 years since the last one and I played in that one and it was a sore one because we lost in the last minute.

“It’s incredible to think that with the dominance that both teams have had over the last few years that this is the first one since then.”

Will Rangers beat Celtic in Old Firm Scottish Cup final showdown at Hampden Park?

When you consider both Rangers and Celtic have dominated the Scottish game over the last few years, it does seem ridiculous that they haven’t managed to meet one another in a cup final for over two decades.

Clement would have likely hoped that would have been the case again this year as he and his side are heading into Saturday’s match on the back foot with almost every pundit labelling them underdogs before a ball has been kicked.

Under the Belgian’s management, the Light Blues have flattered to deceive against their Glasgow rivals in almost every meeting. If Clement wants to get his hands on some silverware, something has to change at Hampden today.

The Ibrox boss hasn’t thrown his usual tactical set-up out of the water completely, instead, he has tweaked the personnel in his side and he will be hoping that alone will be enough to finally beat Brendan Rodgers this season.

Hopefully, we won’t have to wait another 22 years for a final of this magnitude.
