Rangers transfer news as Trabzonspor boss Abdullah Avci drops new John Lundstram update

Trabzonspor manager Abdullah Avci has admitted that news about the signing of Rangers midfielder John Lundstram will arrive soon.

The English midfielder’s contract at Ibrox is set to expire at the end of the season and while Philippe Clement has insisted he wants to keep him in Glasgow, it appears as though he will be departing this summer.

Reports have suggested that the 30-year-old has already penned a contract with Turkish side Trabzonspor and while Avci didn’t confirm that, he did suggest the situation will be made clearer sooner rather than later.

As quoted by Haber61 on Friday (24 May) he said: “We are working hard on the transfer. There are also those who have covered a lot of distance.

“There will be information about him soon.”

Will John Lundstram leave Rangers and Ibrox for Trabzonspor in the summer transfer window?

It has been one of the worst-kept secrets in Scottish football over the last few months that Lundstram will be leaving Glasgow for nothing the summer, alongside Borna Barisic who also looks set to head to Turkey.

While the Englishman has been remarkably inconsistent throughout his tenure north of the border, he has shown at times under Clement that he is more than capable of being a real difference-maker in the middle of the park.

Most fans won’t be too disappointed to lose the 30-year-old this summer, but it does feel as though the Light Blues could be lacking a bit of experience and know-how in the middle of the park next term, particularly if Ryan Jack also departs.

With speculation continuing around the futures of Connor Goldson and James Tavernier as well, this summer looks set to be one of immense rebuilding at Ibrox, with plenty of additions required.

Hopefully, Clement gets his recruit right. Otherwise, he could end up suffering the same fate as Michael Beale.
