Rangers ace John Lundstram verdict shared by Tom English ahead of Celtic clash

Tom English claims most Rangers fans do not want John Lundtram anywhere near the team for the final against Celtic on 25 May.

Lundstram, who appears to be on his way out of the club in the summer, picked up a red card and scored an goal the last time the two sides met in the Old Firm derby.

While English believes that a section of Gers fans are willing to forgive him for that, it’s not a belief shared commonly among the rest of the supporters.

English wrote in his BBC column on 24 May: “Lundstram, who will most likely leave in the summer, has been the subject of huge debate among Rangers fans.

“Some are prepared to forgive him for his petulance at Celtic Park and want him in the middle of the park in the hope his experience and aggression can help stifle Celtic’s impressive trio.

“Most, it would seem, do not want him anywhere near the team though. The next question is, however, who would play instead of him – and there are not a lot of appealing answers to that.”

John Lundstram must not start for Rangers v Celtic

Lundstram’s recent performances for Gers have been highly criticised, with many fans and observers suggesting he should not start in the upcoming final against Celtic.

This sentiment is fueled by Lundstram’s own goal and subsequent red card in a crucial match against Celtic, which significantly impacted Rangers’ chances of winning the league.

This incident is not isolated, as Lundstram has had several poor performances throughout the season, leading to a growing consensus that he should not be part of the starting lineup.

Furthermore, his contract is due to expire soon, and there have been reports of negotiations for a new contract, but his recent form and the fan reaction might influence the club’s decision.

Philippe Clement needs to play most if not all the players who are expected to be there next season so it makes no sense to start Lundstram.
