Aberdeen want Robby McCrorie as Rangers transfer update emerges at Ibrox
Aberdeen want to sign Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie as he approaches the final 12 months of his contract at Ibrox, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper has reported that incoming Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin has targeted McCrorie to replace Kelle Roos between the sticks, with Rangers already aware of interest in the 26-year-old at Pittodrie.
McCrorie has made just one first-team appearance this season and a mere seven across his entire Ibrox career, with Jack Butland making the number one shirt.
Steve Clarke overlooked McCrorie in his provisional Scotland squad for EURO 2024, and the keeper has made it clear he wants to play regularly, with a fee needing to be agreed.
Time is right for Robby McCrorie to leave Rangers
Rangers have plenty of business to do this summer, but one area of the starting XI that Philippe Clement doesn’t need to improve is between the sticks, with Butland the definitive first choice.
Butland’s form this season earned him the Scottish Premeirship’s Golden Glove award, and seemingly the only way McCrorie has a genuine shot at becoming the number one is if the 30-year-old is sold for big money this summer.
Clement is also close to bringing in Motherwell stopper Liam Kelly on a free transfer, potentially pushing McCrorie further down the pecking order at Ibrox regardless of if Butland leaves in the next few weeks.

If McCrorie wants to see what he could achieve by leaving the Ibrox bench, he need look no further than his twin brother Ross, who made the move from Rangers to Aberdeen in 2021.
A defensive midfielder, Ross then transferred to Bristol City in the Championship before the start of this season, where his form has earned him a place in Clarke’s provisional Euros squad.
That’s a convincing case study for McCrorie to follow as his Ibrox contract enters its final year, and with both Butland and the incoming Kelly giving him little chance to impress Clement, the 26-year-old goalkeeper may just find a new lease of life at Aberdeen.
In other Rangers news, Clement has been tipped to axe Ross McCausland for this Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park.
