Rangers transfer news as Saudi sources share James Tavernier and Connor Goldson exit update

Sources in Saudi Arabia admit there is still talk about Rangers duo James Tavernier and Connor Goldson leaving Ibrox this summer, according to Chris Jack.

Both Light Blues stars have been linked with making the switch to Saudi Arabia this summer, with reports suggesting that Steven Gerrard is keen to bring the pair to the Middle East when the window opens [Daily Record, 24 April].

Although it remains to be seen whether or not this speculation will result in a genuine bid being made for either player, Rangers Review journalist Jack has confirmed speculation remains rife in Saudi Arabia.

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel (23 May, 14:15) he said: “Outside of Jack Butland, this is going to be the big talking point about departures for the next wee while.

“I spoke to somebody I know out in Saudi about this yesterday and there is still chat over there about these two joining up with Steven Gerrard so it is not just a story over here, it is doing the rounds over there as well.”

Will James Tavernier or Connor Goldson leave Rangers for the Saudi Pro League this summer?

It has been clear over the last few months that neither Tavernier nor Goldson have been performing anywhere near the level that has become expected of them over the course of the careers in Glasgow.

Although Clement has insisted that Goldson was only taken out of the side because of rotation, it spoke volumes that the Englishman was unable to force his way back into the starting XI before his season was ended through injury.

Should the right offer arrive for his services this summer, you would have to imagine that the Gers would be more than happy to allow him to leave, especially now that new centre-backs have already been lined up at Ibrox.

Alternatively, Tavernier has still remained a fixture of Clement’s side throughout the highs and lows of the season and it seems unlikely the Light Blues would let him leave unless a big offer arrived.

If such a bid was made, then a decision would have to be made, but Rangers won’t push him out of the Ibrox exit door.
