Rangers medical scheduled for first of at least eight new Ibrox signings
Rangers are closing in on their first summer signing with Brazilian left-back Jefte due for a medical at Ibrox, according to the The Scottish Sun on social media.
The publication shared on X [22 May] that a deal has been agreed for the 21-year-old, who Philippe Clement tried to capture in January from Fluminense, and a medical pencilled in.
He has spent this season on loan in Cyprus with former Champions League outfit APOEL, scoring three times in 33 games.
Jefte could be swiftly followed through the door by a spate of new signings.
It is understood that Rangers want at least eight new signings as they look to topple Celtic in the Scottish Premiership next season – the club are currently preparing for Saturday’s first Old Firm Scottish Cup final since 2002 at Hampden Park.
Jefte to be the first Rangers name through the door
With a large turnover of players expected on the blue half of Glasgow this summer, it’s encouraging that Rangers are imposing a marker by getting business done early.
Jefte has been on the Light Blues’ radar for some time, and there is plenty of room for manoeuvre with the player at just 21, who has enjoyed his first proper season of men’s football in the Cypriot league this term.
Reinforcements are required in that area of the pitch, with Borna Barisic set for Trabzonspor and the club said to be open to “big-money” offers for Ridvan Yilmaz.
By the end of this month we could see several players lining up at the Ibrox entrance door, with Scotland goalkeeper Liam Kelly reportedly in talks over a return, and Clement keen to bring back Oscar Cortes, who had struggled with injury whilst on loan this season.
Recruits are needed quickly if the club are to replace some of their experienced charges who will be departing after the end of this campaign.
In other Rangers news, a Premier League defender has been linked with both Old Firm clubs, and Stevie Clifford believes there is only one choice.
