Rangers agree long-term contract with Jefte, en route for medical
Rangers have agreed a long-term contract with left-back Jefte, with the player en route to Glasgow for a medical according to Football Scotland.
Writing on their website (22 May), the news outlet report that the 20-year-old defender is set to become the first signing of the summer at Ibrox.
Fabrizio Romano reports that a deal has been agreed between all parties, and Philippe Clement is set to welcome the Fluminese defender into his squad to replace outgoing Borna Barisic.
Rangers planning for the future at Ibrox this summer
The current squad at Ibrox is not only not good enough to be successful, but it’s also ageing and that means fresh faces need to come in for multiple reasons.
The current crop have a host of key players who are hitting the wrong side of 30, and Clement has a big job on his hands to work out a way to strengthen his options while also making the squad younger.
Barisic is set to move to Turkey when his deal expires and whether Jefte is an immediate upgrade remains to be seen, considering he is young and his only experience of Europe was in Cyrpus this season.

But if he fits the way that the manager wants to play, in an attacking, fast-paced style and can step into the team as cover for Ridvan Yilmaz then it must be a positive.
There will be some younger talent coming in for the club this summer, and there will be plenty of business done, so it’s great to get a deal done quickly.
