Oscar Cortes shares update on Rangers future with negotiations underway for Ibrox stay
Oscar Cortes has shared an update on his Rangers future and admitted that talks are on with Lens about staying at Ibrox.
The Colombian winger joined the club in January and was in great form before undergoing surgery after suffering a hamstring injury that brought an end to his campaign early on.
But he did enough in his early showings to convince Philippe Clement that he wants him to be part of the squad going into next season, and during an interview with journalist Pipe Sierra on Kick (22 May), the 20-year-old admitted he is waiting to hear more from his agents.
“Me and my agents are keeping tabs on the negotiations that are taking place,” he said.
“We will see what happens. I’m talking to my agents and also to Lens and Rangers. Let’s see what happens. I am waiting.”
Rangers must secure a new deal for Oscar Cortes for 2024/25
The injury issues that Rangers have suffered this season have been genuinely unbelievable, and Clement must plan for the possibility that it happens again next season.
Obviously in an ideal world that will be solved, but the manager will be keen to ensure he isn’t left short again and there will be a host of changes within the squad this summer.
Fabio Silva will leave when his loan ends, while Abdallah Sima’s future is up in the air with Brighton likely to want a big fee for his loan to be turned permanent.
But with Cortes Rangers have the chance to get another loan deal done, and if everyone is open to the move then it is something they absolutely must do.
His pace, creativity, quality and ability to play on both wings could be vital and he took to the league and team brilliantly, so it would be great to see what he could produce over the course of a full season.
In other Rangers news, Fabrizio Romano has shared that the first signing of the summer is en route for a medical.
