Steven Davis drops Ross McCausland ‘problems’ verdict ahead of Rangers v Celtic
Steven Davis believes Ross McCausland can “cause Celtic problems” in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park on 25 May.
McCausland has displayed positive form in recent weeks and will be hoping to be rewarded with a start in the Old Firm derby.
And Davis feels his compatriot has demonstrated the qualities he possesses that could make life difficult for the Bhoys.
Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph (21 May), he said: “[McCausland has] started the last few games and made an impact with his goal and assists.
“Ross had picked up an injury and missed a few games and missed the international trip in March but I saw the manager saying he thought Ross was getting back to what his best level was.
“I think he can certainly cause Celtic problems. There will be interesting battles all over the pitch and wide areas are key.
“I think Ross has done really well. Obviously he has grasped his opportunity and when Philippe came in early on you could tell that Ross would be a player he liked because of the way he plays and what the manager was asking.
“He has played in some really big games this season and that experience will be good for him.”
Can Ross McCausland make the difference for Rangers against Celtic?
McCausland has certainly provided head coach Philippe Clement with a timely reminder of his qualities in recent weeks.
The Belgian manager started McCausland in each of the Gers’ last two fixtures and was rewarded with a goal in each game and an assist.
The 21-year-old had impressed off the bench prior to that, registering an assist as a substitute in the 4-1 win over Kilmarnock on 5 May and being introduced at half-time in the 2-1 Old Firm derby defeat at Parkhead on 11 May following John Lundstram’s red card.
As a result, the winger could be trusted from the start on this occasion, as he looks to add to his tally of five goals and six assists in all competitions this term.

Clement will certainly be hoping that McCausland can help Rangers secure their first Old Firm derby success of the season – and the Belgian’s tenure – and exact a measure of revenge on their rivals, who pipped them to the post in the Scottish Premiership.
In other news, Keith Jackson has mooted a “serious issue” inside the Gers dressing room.
