Rangers expected to beat Norwich City in transfer race to sign Jose Cordoba as news emerges from England
Rangers look set to beat Norwich City to the signing of Jose Cordoba from Levski Sofia in the summer transfer window, according to Connor Southwell.
The Norwich reporter suggested (22 May) that the Canaries “admire” the centre back but they are not actively chasing him.
He also added that there are plenty of clubs interested in signing Cordoba over the summer but the “expectation” is that he will move to Ibrox.
A report from Bulgarian outlet, Gorg (22 May) has backed up these claims saying he is set to decide between a move to Rangers or Norwich.
Should Rangers sign Jose Cordoba?
After yet another season where the Light Blues have lost out to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race, Philippe Clement needs to improve his squad in the window.
The finances will be tight with plenty of new signings needed to build a strong enough squad to compete next season.
It has been suggested that Cordoba could cost just £3m [The Sun] which would certainly suit the club this summer.
The 22-year-old has had a positive campaign in Europe after moving to Bulgaria after a three-year spell playing in the Panamanian league.
With defenders like Leon Balogun departing, there will be a need for new defensive signings to come in to fill the void.
Although Cordoba could pose a risk given his lack of experience in Europe, he could eventually prove to be an excellent piece of business.
Clement has to be clever in the window and this signing could be representative of that.
In other Rangers news, the club are likely to lock horns with Celtic over the signing of a highly-rated left-back in the summer transfer window.
