Rangers to complete another summer transfer for central defender after Jose Corboba update
Jose Cordoba will not be the only centre-back Philippe Clement and Rangers sign during the summer transfer window, according to Chris Jack.
Reports emerged that the Light Blues were in advanced talks with Levski Sofia to secure the signing of the defender this summer, with personal terms now agreed between the player and the club [Daily Record, 20 May].
Clement is understood to be keen to strengthen his backline following a difficult end to the season and while no other deals are in the pipeline, Rangers Review journalist Jack expects more additions to be made.
Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel (21 May) he said: “I think it is an important one for Rangers to kick off, we know how weak that defence has been over the last few weeks.
“It’s definitely an area that Rangers have to strengthen and I’m pleased that they’re doing it so early on. This certainly seems like one that is far enough along the line for people to be looking into him and what he will bring to the side.
“It’s certainly an area that has to be strengthened and I don’t think he will be the last centre-half piece of business that Rangers do before the end of the season.”
Will Rangers and Philippe Clement make loads of signings in the summer transfer window?
While the signing of Corboba is an excellent step in the right direction, the Light Blues are going to need more than one defensive addition to solve the issues that have plagued them throughout the last few months.
Speculation has continued around both Connor Goldson and Ben Davies ahead of the summer transfer window and it remains to be seen whether or not Leon Balogun will pen a new deal at Ibrox to extend his stay.

While it is unlikely all three defenders will leave when the window opens, Clement and his recruitment team will either have to replace those who exit or upgrade on them if they remain Rangers players.
Hopefully, some further additions will be made sooner rather than later so the Belgian can get to work with his new players and begin preparing for a genuine title charge in his first full season as Gers manager.
