Rangers set for ‘Very Smart’ cash windfall as Jude Bellingham transfer cited
Dan Plumley has praised Rangers for potentially securing extra money in a deal for Glen Kamara from Leeds United should they get promoted.
The Finland international left Ibrox for Elland Road in a £5m deal last summer and has been instrumental as the Whites have made it to the Championship playoff final.
If they are successful and are promoted Rangers will earn an extra £500k from the deal, and football finance expert Plumley has praised the “really smart” business from the club and compared the deal to Jude Bellingham’s move to Real Madrid and how Borussia Dortmund could profit from it.
“It’s really smart,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“We’ve seen time and time again recently how clubs are executing these kinds of clauses, all the way through the system.
“You know, you can look at some of the biggest deals in football, like the situation with Jude Bellingham and the Champions League final, and the money Dortmund might get if Real Madrid win it. It happens all the way through the system.
“It’s smart business and if you can squeeze a little bit more that way, or you’re going to lose that player or he’s going to move on, then performance-related bonuses linked to that player are really important. It’s just another way to squeeze a little bit more margin out of the transfer market and the deals that you’re doing.”
Rangers played the long game with Glen Kamara transfer
The future of Kamara was solved long before the actual transfer went through, with Michael Beale all but confirming he had no future with the club before a bid ever came in.
But there was no panic from the club as deadline day approached and they clearly negotiated a great deal for themselves to include this clause in the transfer.

Kamara is an international midfielder and still had time remaining on his deal at Ibrox, while Leeds were clearly keen to bolster their squad ahead of looking for promotion to the Premier League.
So the board have cashed in on Leeds’ ambition by pushing for extra clauses to be involved should they be successful, and they’re now just one game away from being able to pull in the extra funds.
It’s a solid transfer deal that worked for all parties, and if the board can put some more deals together like this one this summer then it will be another successful transfer window.
In other Rangers news, a deal has been agreed for one player to move to Ibrox in July.
