Rangers close in on Albion Rrahmani transfer despite ‘surprise’ news as Aston Villa linked
Rangers may have to compete with Champions League newcomers Aston Villa this summer if they are to land the signing of Albion Rrahmani, according to Romanian journalist Sorin Chiriac, who has shared his “surprise” over the reported valuation.
The Rapid Bucharest striker is a target of Philippe Clement as the club attempt to bring him to Ibrox, but Unai Emery’s side could be interested in bringing Rrahmani to the English Premier League.
The 23-year-old has scored 17 goals in 25 league games for Rapid since arriving in 2023 and has earned his first full caps for the Kosovo national team in the process, courting interest from Rangers.
Chiriac said on The Rangers Review [21 May]: “Benfica were the first name linked when [Rrahmani] started scoring a lot of goals, and then Aston Villa were the second big club.
“The fee surprised me. Just £2.5million for Rrahmani – I don’t think that’s enough now for the owner of Rapid to sell Rrahmani.”
Rangers look to bolster their attack
Rangers’ anticipated wholesale squad changes are well documented following Saturday’s Scottish Cup final against Celtic, as Clement and the club’s board make a bold attempt to bridge the gap on their bitter rivals next season.
It’s said that the Light Blues have not yet made a formal offer for Rrahmani, but Rapid Bucharest’s asking price could end up rising following the reported interest from some of Europe’s big hitters.
Cyriel Dessers has surpassed the 20-goal mark this season but has also missed a number of key chances, which divides opinion from the Gers’ support, whilst Fabio Silva will return to Wolves following a frustrating loan spell.

If they were to land the coup of Rrahmani, the club are unlikely to stop there in terms of attacking recruits.
Whilst Rangers also look to keep hold of their top talent under contract, don’t be surprised to see over 20 new additions come the end of August.
In other Rangers news, the club could be set for a welcome cash windfall this week.
