Philippe Clement told to dodge Rangers ‘insanity’ with Dujon Sterling call for Hampden clash v Celtic
Rangers manager Philippe Clement has been told by Andy Newport that he has to start Dujon Sterling in midfield for the Old Firm showdown with Celtic.
The Light Blues make the trip to Hampden Park to face their Glasgow rivals on Saturday (25 May) as they look to win their first derby of the campaign to secure a domestic double in Clement’s first season.
Although the Gers’ displays in the last two Old Firm’s have been much improved, Daily Record journalist Newport has urged the Belgian to “mix things up” and start Sterling at the heart of the side.
Writing for the Daily Record on Monday (20 May) he said: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
“Clement has to mix things up and he certainly has to stick Dujon Sterling at the heart of his midfield.”
Who will Philippe Clement start for Rangers against Celtic at Hampden Park?
For most of his tenure at Ibrox, Clement has been given immense praise by pundits and supporters alike for his work with the Light Blues, but his management in the Old Firm games has seen him criticised immensely.
Whether or not the Belgian will show a bit of tactical flexibility at Hampden Park on Saturday remains to be seen, but he surely must not have realised that his teams are not set up in a way to beat the Hoops.
Although Tom Lawrence and Todd Cantwell have been good this term when deployed further forward, they lack the defensive steal out of possession to scrap with the likes of Matt O’Riley and Callum McGregor.

John Lundstram showed at Parkhead that he has already checked out of Ibrox ahead of the summer transfer window and it would be madness to start him again on Saturday following that reckless red card.
Hopefully, Clement will listen to Newport and start Sterling at the base of midfield when the final rolls around.
