Jack Butland ‘uncomfortable truth’ emerges at Rangers with £10m+ Ibrox exit mooted
Rangers could be forced to sell Jack Butland during the summer transfer window as Philippe Clement looks to rebuild his squad, according to the Scottish Mail on Sunday journalist Gary Keown.
The Gers’ goalkeeper has been one of the shining lights this campaign despite losing out on the league title to Celtic.
Keown has suggested (19 May, Pages 106, 107), that Butland could be sold this summer to fund a rebuild under Clement.
He is said to be the only player at Ibrox to command an “eight-figure sum” this summer which Rangers wouldn’t be able to turn down.
Keown also points towards “an uncomfortable truth” that the keeper staying at Ibrox beyond this campaign “doesn’t make sense for anyone”.
Should Rangers sell Jack Butland?
Butland has been one of the most consistent players for the Light Blues in a season full of ups and downs.
This has seen him keep 18 clean sheets this season across his 38 appearances in the Scottish Premiership [FotMob] as his side finished second, behind Celtic.
The Englishman conceded just 32 goals over the course of the season while he made 80 saves to prevent opposition attackers.
What makes Butland so good is his reflexes which allow him to make close-range saves which other goalkeepers may concede from.

There is a chance that he will be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of the European Championships which will see interest in his signature grow.
If an offer comes in which could allow Clement to fill out his squad with better-quality players than he could otherwise afford, a move may make sense.
If he stays there won’t be any complaints but as frustrating as it may be to fans, selling Butland may be a smart move by Rangers.
