Simon Jordan launches fresh rant on talkSPORT after Celtic pip Rangers to title, ‘Tragedy’
Simon Jordan has lamented the lack of competitiveness of the Scottish Premiership after Celtic claimed the title ahead of Rangers in another two-horse race.
Celtic’s emphatic 5-0 win at Kilmarnock on 15 May made it impossible for Rangers to catch them at the summit of the table, with six points separating the two with just one game remaining.
The Gers’ failure to win the Old Firm derby on 11 May put the Bhoys on the cusp of success, needing just one point from their final two matches to guarantee success, which they have now done.
And Jordan pointed to the fact that Celtic have won 12 of the last 13 league titles as a damning indictment of the lack of competition in the division, saying on talkSPORT [16 May, 11:25am]: “Five of the last 12 years Celtic won the title Rangers weren’t in the league, so they’ve won seven out of eight with them in, which is a dominance. But hasn’t it always been such?
“It’s either Rangers or Celtic winning this league – that’s the tragedy of the Scottish league and my disappointment with it – the quality of domestic football in Scotland.
“Where are these wonderful players that came out of Scotland? Where are the revenues? Where are all these things?”
Can Rangers end Celtic’s dominance?
Were it not for Rangers’ title triumph in the 2020/21 campaign, Celtic’s dominance would have been unbroken over the last 13 years.
The Gers clinched the title with 102 points that year, winning 32 and losing none of their 38 league games to finish 25 points clear of their rivals.
Rangers have come close in each of the five most recent seasons outside that title-winning campaign, finishing in second and within 10 points of Celtic each time – save for in 2019-20, when the competition was abandoned midway due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is their recent record in the Old Firm derby – in the Scottish Premiership – that must change if the Gers are to topple their rivals, however. Rangers have claimed just one victory in their last 11 league derbies – a run which stretches back to the start of 2022.

If Philippe Clement can craft a side that can take points off the Bhoys, Rangers will close the gap on their rivals over the coming seasons. That quite simply has to be the aim moving forward.
