Jose Cordoba told to sign for Rangers by Panama journalist as Besiktas development emerges
Panamanian journalist Jose Miguel Dominguez has urged his compatriot Jose Cordoba to join Rangers and snub reported interest from Besiktas.
The Gers have been keen on the Panama international – who plays for Bulgarian side Levski Sofia – for some time now ahead of a summer squad overhaul.
However, it appears Turkish outfit Besiktas have now joined the race for the 22-year-old central defender.
Dominguez, though, would prefer to see his countryman move to Scotland, saying to El Marcador TV [16 May]: “Everything is in the hands of Levski [Sofia], who has to take the best possible offer, analyse, study and see what is best for them economically.
“I would say, go to Scotland, go to the United Kingdom, play in Glasgow and compete or try to reach the UEFA Champions League.”
Would Jose Cordoba be a good signing for Rangers?
Cordoba has established himself as a crucial component of the Levski Sofia side since arriving in September 2021 – initially on loan from Panamanian club Independiente (not to be confused with the Argentine team of the same name).
He had previously spent time on loan in Celta Vigo’s youth system as well as another Hungarian side in Etar before making the move to Levski Sofia at the age of 20.
Despite his tender years, he quickly made an impression and has been a regular starter at the club since, making 87 appearances across all competitions.
Cordoba is also left-footed – a highly coveted trait among central defenders at dominant sides.
If Rangers can beat Besiktas to his signature, Cordoba has the potential to develop into an excellent defender at Ibrox.
