Jim White reveals text message from Germany as Simon Jordan war of words over Rangers, Celtic continues

Simon Jordan has doubled down on his criticism of Scottish football after Rod Stewart’s post criticising him for his views on Rangers and Celtic.

The music legend posted an Instagram story (15 May) firing shots at the talkSPORT host for his comments about Rangers and Celtic struggling to compete in the English Championship.

And while appearing on talkSPORT’s breakfast show (16 May, 11:24am) Jim White shared that he received a message from Sir Rod while in Germany and offered Jordan the chance to respond.

“Rod Stewart last night messages me, ‘I’m in Germany hacked off at your pal Simon’,” he said. “Look at what I’ve written on Instagram. So I look at what he’s written on Instagram.”

White then read out the post, which allowed Jordan to fire back.

“He’s from bloody Highgate for crying out loud,” he said. “Listen I get onto Scottish football because it’s a low hanging fruit. Which you’ll probably find under Rod’s kilt if he looks.

“The bottom line is, you know, look at the message. I realise that Rod is a national treasure and nobody wants to offend a national treasure. But the problem is that I’ve got to the point where I almost want to strangle myself with a pair of his unfathomably tight trousers if I have to listen to another story about his private jet, what football pitches he’s got and what swimming pool he swims in.

“Why would anyone be talking about Scottish football? He should be thanking me for talking about Scottish football, coming from Highgate he should support Arsenal or Tottenham.

“You can’t silence people’s views because you don’t like what they say. If you get a surveyor out around your house and he tells you there is a leaky roof, you don’t chase him down the road and tell him to get lost, you listen to him and look at what the validity of his points are.

“Is there any substance behind it? The two biggest clubs in Scotland can’t even put fans in their own stadiums. The broadcast deal is two and six. The rest of the league is substandard. The two top sides aren’t what they used to be. So where is that unfair observation?”

“Rod Stewart tells me that I’m being offensive about Scottish football, attack the argument. Don’t make it about the person. If you want to talk about elocution lessons go and get yourself some, so you can at least have some vague resemblance of a Scottish person because as far as I’m concerned I don’t know any cockney Scots.”

Simon Jordan wrong about Rangers and Celtic but right about Sir Rod Stewart

There has been a lot of talk about Rangers and Celtic not being as good as they used to be and the Scottish league being substandard, but it’s surely one or the other.

Part of the reason the Old Firm clubs don’t look as good as they once did is because the league has improved and the gap has got smaller, but Rangers in particular have done well in Europe in recent years to prove they’re not as bad as people believe.

But there are huge problems within the Scottish game and the people in charge of running it need to do a far better job when it comes to advertising the game and running it properly.

The distribution of the TV money is incredibly lopsided but the deals being agreed and constructed are awful, and Rod Stewart is talking from his heart rather than with his brain.

Jordan and everyone else just wants the Scottish game to be better and there is nothing wrong with criticising the things that are bad about the game if you can back it up, which he did.
