Borna Barisic told he has ‘no chance’ of playing for Rangers v Celtic at Hampden after update
Rangers icon Barry Ferguson has told defender Borna Barisic that he “has absolutely no chance” of featuring in the Scottish Cup final against Celtic.
The Croatian international started the Gers Old Firm defeat against the Hoops at Parkhead but was dropped to the bench for the win over Dundee on Tuesday (14 May) and remained an unused substitute.
Ridvan Yilmaz started at left-back and was replaced by 21-year-old Robbie Fraser who blew Ferguson away his “brilliant” cameo, leaving the Go Radio pundit to suggest Barisic’s career at Ibrox may now be over.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (15 May, 28:00) he said: “Certainly Barisic, he didn’t start [against Dundee] and it was brilliant to see another academy graduate get an opportunity and he did really well, played a couple of brilliant balls into the box.
“That tells you that Barisic has absolutely no chance of being involved.”
Will Philippe Clement start Borna Barisic for Rangers clash v Celtic at Hampden?
Clement has previously insisted that he has no issue with starting players who are set to leave Ibrox in the summer and that has been clear in recent weeks when he has continued to play both Barisic and John Lundstram.
But with the league title now out of reach and only a Scottish Cup to play for, the Belgian will already have one eye on next season. Currently, that plan doesn’t appear to include either of the exit-bound pair.

With Yilmaz fit again and Fraser impressing from the bench against Dundee last time out, Clement does not need to shoehorn Barisic into his starting XI for the final games of the season. He can let the 31-year-old run his contract down from the bench.
The left-back has struggled for form throughout the campaign so far and his displays have been slammed by pundits and fans alike. Rangers will have a much better chance of lifting the double with the veteran out of the starting XI.
