Rangers want to sign midfield sensation Sol Sidibe ahead of Chelsea

Rangers want to sign Stoke City sensation Sol Sidibe ahead of Chelsea and AC Milan this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Writing on their website (14 May), the news outlet report that the 17-year-old midfielder has attracted interest from Europe’s top clubs after his breakthrough campaign in the Championship.

Sidibe has represented England at Under-17 level but has a French passport through his father, former Premier League striker Mamady Sidibe, which means a move away from England isn’t too difficult to do despite his age.

Chelsea currently lead the race for his signature, but Rangers and AC Milan have also been keeping tabs on him throughout the season.

Rangers want the best young talent at Ibrox

The Ibrox academy has always been full of fantastic talents and the current batch don’t look too different.

Ross McCausland recently came through as have Alex Lowry and Leon King, while the likes of Bailey Rice, Cole McKinnon and Robbie Fraser are highly-rated too.

The club have recently closed in on the signing of Alexander Smith on his first professional contract too ahead of Arsenal, which shows there is a clear plan for the young players that they are buying into at the club.

Sidibe is already playing regular first-team football and with a rebuild expected at Ibrox this summer he could well be part of that, although the pressures at the bottom of the Championship and top of the SPFL are very different beasts.

He has the talent to come in and be an option, undoubtedly, but whether Rangers could compete financially with the competition for his signature remains to be seen.
