Neil McCann in disbelief over what Scott Wright did in Rangers win v Dundee

Neil McCann was in disbelief after learning Scott Wright’s brace in Rangers’ 5-2 win over Dundee was his first Scottish Premiership goals in two years.

The Gers looked set for further embarrassment after going 2-0 down to goals from Jordan McGhee and Juan Portales before Ross McCausland grabbed one back before the half-time break.

It was certainly a tale of two halves as Cyriel Dessers and Todd Cantwell netted to give Rangers a 3-2 lead, with Wright putting the icing on the cake with a late brace – his last league goal coming in December 2021.

Speaking via BBC Sportscene on Tuesday (14 May), McCann said: “I can’t believe it’s Scott Wright’s first and second Scottish Premiership goals in two years.

“That’s incredible because he does get lots and lots of chances. It’s something he needs to add to his game.”

Scott Wright breaks unwanted goalscoring record in Rangers v Dundee

The 26-year-old winger has proven that he is a talented player, having come onto the Ibrox pitch for an eight-minute cameo and leaving the field with two goals.

Though with just 12 goals in 115 Rangers appearances since joining from Aberdeen in 2021, fans will have expected more from the exciting winger.

Wright is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract at Ibrox, having signed a four-and-a-half-year deal in February 2021, so it will be interesting to see where the winger ends up this summer.

While Philippe Clement might be keen to keep Wright in the squad as part of his summer rebuild, the player’s unusual record at Ibrox might see him sold during the next transfer window, especially as his contract ticks down.

Scott Wright has not had a consistent run for Rangers

If the manager is able to get the best out of Wright next season, it could be worth keeping him around the club as a potential backup winger.

However, if there was an offer to come in this summer, it would be difficult to see him staying at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, a hugely controversial Celtic transfer for an Ibrox ace has been suggested as the transfer window nears.
