Tony Docherty ‘angry’ at what Rangers ace Fabio Silva did to Dundee players in at Ibrox
Dundee boss Tony Docherty was “angry” on the touchline after Fabio Silva hit the crossbar in the first half of the clash with Rangers at Ibrox.
The two sides were competitive in the first half of the penultimate league game of the season, and the Portuguese striker almost broke the deadlock when he clipped the crossbar in the opening 20 minutes of the game, before Dundee took the league seven minutes before the break through Jordan McGhee and scored a second two minutes later.
Ross McCausland pulled one back on the stroke of half-time with a fine finish, but there was a moment where Silva’s effort before the madness left Docherty raging on the touchline, as he felt the forward was offside before he strolled past two defenders according to Billy Dodds on BBC Sportsound (14 May 19:48) when discussing the incident with Rory Loy.
“I thought the same Rory [he was offside],” he said. “He [the assistant referee] was caught behind play, he was about ten yards behind so he couldn’t make the decision.
“Anyway when he gets through, Silva, he bundles through two Dundee defenders and I think Tony Docherty is a bit angry about that as well, both scenarios.”
Rangers need to do more in the second half vs Dundee for a win
While Philippe Clement’s side have been the better team of the two and had the most possession, they’ve done little with it in the opening 45 minutes and can’t argue with being behind.
Silva hitting the bar was the closest the team has come, with Cyriel Dessers’ link-up play not being at it’s sharpest and the other attackers proving to be shot-shy, and defensively they have been poor.
The SPFL title race is already over after the defeat to Celtic at the weekend, but the players are battling for their futures at Ibrox and need to do more to show they deserve to be here.

In the final home game of the season the players should be looking to give the fans a proper send off for the season, and the performance so far hasn’t been anywhere near good enough.
While Docherty was angry in the moment, he’ll be happy overall with how Dundee have performed and now the Light Blues have to do more to give him a reason to be unhappy in the second half to save themselves from embarrassment.
