Sir Alex Ferguson would tear his hair out over what Todd Cantwell did in Rangers v Dundee

Rory Loy believes Sir Alex Ferguson would have torn his hair out watching Todd Cantwell at Ibrox as Rangers came from behind to beat Dundee.

The Light Blues came from 2-0 down to win 5-2 to earn a vital three points and delay Celtic’s title celebrations thanks to goals from Ross McCausland, Cyriel Dessers, a stunner from Cantwell and two from substitute Scott Wright late on.

The ex-Norwich man was handed a start in the game but struggled in the first-half in particular, going to ground whenever he felt contact and while on commentary for BBC Sportsound (14 May, 19:59), Loy explained why the legendary Manchester United boss would have been raging at what he saw from the attacking midfielder.

“Many moons ago it was the Champions League for Manchester United and Nani went down under a similar tackle,” he said.

“Physio went to go on, Sir Alex Ferguson straight out of the dugout. ‘Don’t you dare go on that pitch,’ screaming at Nani to get up and get on with it.

“He would be tearing his hair out watching Todd Cantwell tonight.”

Rangers have a decision to make with Todd Cantwell

Cantwell was very much a Michael Beale signing, and while he has showed tremendous quality at times there are question marks about how he fits in with Philippe Clement’s system.

He has been in and out of the team throughout the campaign and his performances have been hot and cold too. With a contract that expires in 2026, he is entering the final two years of his deal at Ibrox and there is a decision to make.

A mini-revolution is expected this summer and Clement has been adamant that players won’t be allowed to run their contracts down in the future, so it could be the perfect time to cash in.

Todd Cantwell is linked with a Rangers exit.

Cantwell will surely attract interest from England, either in the Premier League or Championship and considering the low fee that was paid for him it shouldn’t be too hard to make a profit.

If Clement is undecided and Cantwell isn’t going to really step up his level to convince him, then maybe an exit makes the most sense for everyone.
