Gjis Smal agrees next transfer as Rangers update emerges from Holland
Rangers are set to miss out to Feyenoord in the race to sign left-back Gjis Smal this summer, according to 1908.nl.
The Dutch outlet has reported on its website that the defender is set to leave FC Twente at the end of the season and will be available as a free agent.
Unfortunately, though, Smal will sign a multi-year contract at Feyenoord which will keep him out of the hands of not only Rangers but Celtic too.
Rangers ready to sign new left-back?
With all of the speculation that has floated around Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz in recent months, it is no surprise that left-back is an area that is being targeted.
Philippe Clement arrived at Ibrox with a squad that needs massive surgery once again, only 12 months after Michael Beale attempted to do the same thing and failed miserably.
So many players are out of contract, and the goalkeeper and right-back spots are likely the only two that don’t need new signings moving forward.
Yilmaz was linked heavily with an exit in January, and although that has gone quiet now, it would be no surprise to see it emerge again in the summer.

Barisic is out of contract in several weeks and is already said to have agreed a move to Turkey with Trabzonspor, where John Lundstram may join him.
Smal was a target that had people excited around Ibrox, but it looks as though he will not be one joining Clement, who will need to look elsewhere with Nils Koppen now.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement could now sign a pair of Scottish sensations to replace exit-bound flops.
