Chris Sutton makes new Kenny Miller and Rangers jibe after Celtic incident
Chris Sutton has made another jibe at Kenny Miller after his reaction to the John Lundstram red card as Rangers fell to a 2-1 defeat at Celtic on 11 May.
Sutton was speaking at Celtic’s end-of-season awards night and said that nobody “in the universe” agreed with Miller’s view that Lundstram should not have been given a red card.
Lundstram’s red card, upgraded from an initial yellow for a studs-up challenge on Alistair Johnston, came just before half-time in the Gers’ loss at Parkhead.
After congratulating Celtic on the victory, Sutton joked: “Can I also congratulate Kenny Miller, for his unique piece of punditry that no one else in the universe agreed with.”
John Lundstram finished at Rangers?
Rangers were already up against it at Parkhead on 11 May, having gone 2-0 down within a couple of first-half minutes, before Cyriel Dessers headed in an immediate reply to get the visitors back to within one.
A Parkhead-shaped mountain to climb more than doubled in size just before half-time though, as a sliding challenge from Lundstram left Johnston sprawled on the deck.
The initial decision was a yellow card, but VAR quickly intervened and referee Willie Collum had no choice but to upgrade it to red – and Miller was far from happy.
Miller’s immediate comments from the incident, bemoaning that the challenge wouldn’t have warranted a red card without the intervention of VAR; were a real stretch, given that Lundstram had his studs up and no control whatsoever as he slid in.
Lundstram has been destroyed since that moment too, with his contract expiring at the end of this season, many want that to be his last ever visit to Parkhead.
Celtic and Sutton very much got the last laugh out of the incident, with Rangers and Miller left to rue another missed Old Firm opportunity, which appears to have all but handed the Premiership title to their rivals.
