Rangers transfers dubbed ‘utter disgrace’ as journalist rages over what he’s seen
Gary Keown has slammed Rangers and their use of the transfer market in recent years after they lost 2-1 to Celtic, all but handing the title to their Old Firm rivals.
Philippe Clement’s side are now six points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership after a defeat at Parkhead on Saturday (11 May).
John Lundstram has been heavily criticised as he scored an own goal before being sent off late in the first half. The English midfielder is set to depart the club in the summer and needs replacing.
Keown won’t back Rangers to do so effectively, in an article for the Scottish Mail on Sunday (12 May, page 106), he has slammed their work in the market.
He said: “The Belgian took over a club whose use of the transfer market and management of talent has been an utter disgrace for years.
“The use of the transfer market has been an absolute joke. When it comes to investing in solid assets and building for a bright prosperous future.”
Should Rangers let John Lundstram go?
Lundstram has been on top form this season which saw him named in the Scottish Premiership Team of the Season.
He certainly let himself down against Celtic which may ultimately prove to hand the title to the Gers’ most bitter rivals.
The own goal was unfortunate albeit confusing as to what was going through his head as he put it beyond Jack Butland.

His red card was utterly stupid given that Alastair Johnson was going nowhere, facing his own goal and well inside his own half.
There has been plenty of interest in Lundstram as his contract at Rangers ticks down which will leave him a free agent in the summer.
He and Borna Barisic have been linked to Trabzonspor and a move to Turkey looks likely but yet to be confirmed.
There is no doubt that Lundstram has been an important player under Clement and losing him could be damaging.
Keown is right when it comes to transfers and if the 30 year old leaves, it may be a struggle to replace him successfully.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton believes the title race is done after Celtic’s 2-1 win at Parkhead.
