Rangers set for seven-figure windfall after permanent Malik Tillman transfer to PSV Eindhoven

Rangers are set to earn a seven-figure windfall after Malik Tillman completed a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich to PSV Eindhoven, according to Rangers Review.

Writing on their website (10 May), the news outlet report that the attacking midfielder has seen his loan move in the Netherlands made permanent in a deal worth up to £12m.

After a successful stint in Glasgow in the 2022/23 season, Tillman opted not to return to Ibrox despite the club triggering the permanent option in his loan deal, which saw Bayern trigger their buy-back option immediately.

That gave Rangers a compensation fee of around £1m profit, but also guaranteed them 10% of any future sale for the American meaning the Ibrox club will earn around £1.2m from this latest deal.

Rangers will take any extra funds they can get this summer

A busy summer is expected in Glasgow with Philippe Clement needing to put his own stamp on the squad, and that means any sort of cash injection will be a positive.

Rangers are keen to sign Abdallah Sima permanently after his loan spell from Brighton this summer but he won’t be cheap, and there are several other positions that will be targeted also.

The club will obviously be budgeting for what they expect to have, but bringing in an extra £1.2m can never be a bad thing and it could help to get some deals over the line a little bit quicker.

Clement will want the majority, if not all, of his business done early in the window. We saw that with Fabio Silva being signed before the January window even opened.

For Rangers any seven-figure sum is a big deal and to get it for a player who hasn’t played for the club in well over a year represents good business at the time the deal was negotiated.
