Chris Sutton mocks Rangers after Old Firm derby loss v Celtic

Chris Sutton has mocked Rangers after Celtic claimed a 2-1 win over their fierce rivals to all but clinch the SPFL title once again.

Matt O’Riley opened the scoring before a John Lundstram own goal two minutes later gave the hosts a 2-0 lead, before Cyriel Dessers pulled one back 90 seconds later. However, Lundstram was given a straight red card on the stroke of half-time and killed their chances of a comeback.

Jack Butland saved a penalty in the second half and there were no further goals despite big chances, and Sutton took to his personal X account (11 May) to mock Gers fans and claim the title race is over.

“Moral victory for Rangers drawing the second half?” he said. “Title race over north and south of the border?”

Celtic have earned bragging rights, Rangers should be burning

Anyone with any sort of affiliation to Rangers should be absolutely burning at the way this season has played out.

After a horror start to proceedings under Michael Beale, the players rejuvenated under Philippe Clement and managed to turn the season around completely by catching Celtic and even going top of the table.

But as soon as they were under a bit of pressure the team completely crumbled, in what has been a repeating trend in recent seasons from a group of players clearly not good enough anymore for the top level.

It’s given people like Sutton and Neil Lennon the chance to gloat and rub it in the faces of Gers fans, and they can do nothing but sit back and take it at this point.

They have nobody to blame but themselves, and even a win in the Scottish Cup final at the end of the month surely won’t be enough to claim any sort of moral victory in this rivalry.
