Chris Sutton blasts John Lundstram in immediate reaction to Rangers 2-1 loss v Celtic

Chris Sutton has reacted immediately to Celtic’s 2-1 win over Rangers and declared the title race as “essentially job done” as a result.

The Hoops claimed a win after a whirlwind game thanks to goals from Matt O’Riley and a John Lundstram own goal, with the midfielder also getting sent off minutes later after Cyriel Dessers had given Philippe Clement’s side a lifeline.

But reacting to the game on his personal X account (11 May) immediately after the game, Sutton admitted he felt the midfielder “cost Rangers massively” with his red card, but praised Jack Butland after he saved a penalty in the second half.

“Massive result for Celtic and the King of Kings was at Celtic Park to see it,” he wrote.

“John Lundstram cost Rangers massively. Jack Butland has been absolutely brilliant this season and kept Rangers in with a chance.

“A bit nervy towards the end but it’s essentially job done.”

Title race over, all eyes on the cup final

Rangers and Celtic both have won piece of silverware wrapped up and in the cabinet at this point, but there is still one more to play for.

Lundstram’s own goal was simply unlucky, and arguably he could have done a lot better for the first goal too, but the red card was just a terrible decision on his part and gave the referee no other option.

The title race is now all but over with six points between the teams with two games remaining, but there is a still a cup final at Hampden Park that could make things a lot better heading into the summer.

It won’t be easy and with this game so fresh in the memory surely Clement will learn from his mistakes and change things, because the team had their moments in the game even with ten men.

Sutton will now gloat a lot as usual, but he can. If Rangers had won they’d be doing the same. But this result lies firmly on the head of Lundstram at this point.
