Rangers transfer news as Jose Cordoba already completes Ibrox visit amid talks over switch

Jose Cordoba watched Rangers’ Scottish Premiership showdown with Kilmarnock at Ibrox, according to the Rangers Review.

The outlet reported on its website on Thursday (9 May) that the Panama international was in attendance in Glasgow for the Light Blues’ 4-1 on Sunday (5 May) as Philippe Clement’s side kept their slim title hopes alive.

Having made the trip to Scotland, the Light Blues will now push to get a deal to sign the 22-year-old over the line ahead of the end of next season as Clement and his recruitment team look to strengthen their backline.

Talks between the parties are already advanced and the Gers are hopeful of agreeing a deal with Levski Sofia to bring Cordoba to Rangers ahead of the Belgain’s first full season at Ibrox.

Will Rangers and Philippe Clement sign Jose Cordoba in the summer transfer window at Ibrox?

It’s a good sign to see Cordoba already in Glasgow as that would suggest this deal is already at a fairly advanced stage. The defender wouldn’t have flown across from Bulgaria unless he was genuinely interested in securing a move.

Most fans won’t be surprised to see Clement moving this quickly to try and get a new defender on his books, especially as speculation continues to circle around a number of regulars in the Belgian’s backline.

Both James Tavernier and Connor Goldson have been linked with moves to the Saudi Pro League while it remains to be seen whether or not Ben Davies and Leon Balogun will be Rangers players when next season rolls around.

While all four of those players could still be in situ come the start of next season, it isn’t out of the question to suggest all four could even move on. If that’s the case new faces will be needed and quickly.

Hopefully, Corboba will be more successful than the Gers’ recent import from South America Jose Cifuentes and slightly more robust than Oscar Cortes.
