Nils Koppen leads charge on new Rangers transfer strategy with advanced talks already underway

Rangers are prioritising the signings of players under the age of 24 this summer after entering advanced talks to sign Jose Cordoba, according to the Daily Record.

Writing on their website (10 May), the news outlet report that director of football recruitment Koppen has been “leading the charge” for the upcoming summer window, with the strategy being to sign players aged 24 or under that can bring real future value to the club.

And the hunt has begun with the Ibrox club entering advanced talks for Panama international Cordoba, with the centre-back even watching the club’s 4-1 win over Kilmarnock from the stands.

Rangers strategy is set, now they must deliver

Rangers’ transfer situation over the last few years has been bonkers, with key players leaving on free transfers and Michael Beale splashing the cash on several flops.

There have been far more failures than successes in recent years when it comes to the market, and there has to be a way to correct that going forward.

Targetting young players who have a high ceiling and a potentially great resale value is the way that the team should be going, because getting players before they cost a bomb means profit is there but also they have plenty of quality for their own league.

It’s a sensible decision and for Koppen to already be looking at bringing players in early suggests that Clement knows exactly what he wants to do with the squad.

That can only be a positive thing for the new season, and if the club go into the 2024/25 campaign as treble winners then the standards will be back where they are supposed to be.
