Todd Cantwell tipped for Rangers axe v Celtic after what happened last week
Cammy Bell has suggested Philippe Clement should bench Todd Cantwell in the Old Firm v Celtic for Rangers given his poor form in recent weeks.
The Englishman started against Kilmarnock and despite the Gers scoring four, the attacker wasn’t directly involved in any of them.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, transcribed by the Glasgow Times, Bell has suggested he should be dropped ahead of the Celtic clash.
He said: “Todd Cantwell’s not done enough for me again. He just looks a little bit out of form, a little bit unhappy at the moment. I think Lawrence brings a little bit more control and spark.
“Sterling’s got to start for me, you get a good, solid performance from him every single game so you’ve got to find a place on the pitch for him.”
How did Todd Cantwell perform for Rangers v Kilmarnock?
Cantwell, 26, has made 41 appearances in all competitions for Rangers so far this season but has scored just six goals in that time [FotMob].
It must be said that his underlying stats have looked positive across the year with 30 successful dribbles, 46 fouls won and 89 touches in the opposition box.
This is all well and good but his performances just haven’t been good enough in recent weeks as he has been anonymous at times.

Against Kilmarnock, the Light Blues had 74 per cent possession and had an xG of 4.90 [FotMob] and yet Cantwell had no goal involvements.
He failed to complete a dribble and just one of his six attempted crosses found their target [FotMob]. This isn’t good enough for a player with Premier League pedigree.
Moving forward maybe a starting role for Sterling or Lawrence may be beneficial as Rangers travel to Celtic Park.
