Ryan Jack may have chance to dodge summer Ibrox exit after new injury development
Rangers are reaching the climax of their season and in the next couple of weeks, they could secure a historic treble or end the season with only the Viaplay Cup.
The pressure is well and truly on Philippe Clement and his side to finish the campaign strongly, particularly this weekend at Parkhead against Celtic as they look to breathe new life into their Premiership title push.
Injuries have certainly made life more difficult for the Belgian at times this season, but it appears as though slowly but surely, some players are beginning to make their way back to full fitness.
One man who is closing in on a return to first-team action is veteran midfielder Ryan Jack. The Scottish international hasn’t played for the Gers since March but took a major step forward in his recovery on Thursday (9 May).
The 32-year-old was named in the starting XI for Rangers B’s Glasgow Cup clash with Queen’s Park alongside Alex Lowry as the pair begin to step up their injury recovery and close in on a return to the first team.
Will Ryan Jack leave Rangers and Ibrox during the summer transfer window?
Jack’s consistent injury issues over the last few years had led to suggestions that Clement could cut ties with the Scottish international and some even suggested that he may have already played his final game for the Light Blues.
While it remains to be seen how close the 32-year-old is to a first-team return, his place in the starting XI for Thursday afternoon’s game shows that he is getting closer and closer to being fully fit having been sidelined for so long.
Clement’s side may only have four games left in their season, but the campaign doesn’t officially come to an end until 25 May. That leaves Jack with just over two weeks to get himself fully fit to feature at Hampden Park against Celtic.
That could well be a step too far for the midfielder, but you would imagine that he would be doing everything in his power to play some sort of role in the final weeks of the season.
It could be argued that in the last few weeks, the Gers have missed the veteran’s leadership both in the changing room and on the playing field. He may not be as sharp as he once was, but he still has enjoyed an excellent career.
Hopefully, supporters haven’t yet seen the last of him in a Gers shirt. Now that he is back on the grass and in a starting XI, he may well have recovered just in time to save his Rangers career before his contract expires at the end of the season.
