Stuart McCall backs Dujon Sterling for key Rangers role v Celtic in Old Firm
Rangers star Dujon Sterling has been tipped to “sort out” Celtic captain Callum McGregor by Stuart McCall ahead of the Old Firm derby on 11 May.
McCall backed the 24-year-old to play a key role in restricting the influence of McGregor in the Parkhead clash, as the midfielder continues his return from injury.
The Gers can draw level with Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with a win, and McCall reckons Sterling, equally adept on both sides of defence and midfield, can man-mark the Hoops captain.
Speaking on BBC SportSound, via The Scottish Sun, McCall said: “If McGregor was back to his best for Celtic and pulling the strings, I’d like to see somebody to go and sort him out.
“For me, Sterling can do that.”
Where will Dujon Sterling play for Rangers v Celtic?
Rangers play few games in which they’re not expected to dominate possession and attacking momentum, but one game in which they aren’t is the Old Firm clash at Parkhead.
In last month’s 3-3 draw at Ibrox, Sterling was chosen ahead of Borna Barisic at left-back by Clement, although was restricted from making much forward progress as the visitors raced into a 2-0 lead.
He has been given space to roam in the Gers’ last two games though, starting on the right flank of midfield in Clement’s 4-2-3-1 formation.

Rangers returned to winning ways against St Mirren and Kilmarnock with Sterling in that role, suggesting that he may well keep his place in the side for the trip to Celtic.
If McGregor does start on 11 May, he’ll likely take up a central position, drawing Sterling in-field if he’s to be the player tasked with man-marking the Scottish international.
Could this facilitate a change of formation by Clement? Sterling has been solid at both left-back and right midfield in recent weeks for the Light Blues, and there’s nothing to suggest that marking McGregor as part of a midfield three would be too big a task for the highly-rated Rangers utility.
