Rangers defender Leon Balogun injury update emerges v Celtic

Rangers defender Leon Balogun could face a long-term spell on the sidelines with his back injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that it’s likely he will miss the Old Firm derby against Celtic on 11 May, but his season could also be over.

Philippe Clement did not give a timeline on the Nigeria international but the BBC reported on 5 May that his options for the Hoops clash could be severely limited.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

The best case here would be a mild back injury and he responds well to treatment and training, not missing any games.

However, given the manager’s comments, it’s fair to rule him out of the next one at least.

The worst case would be a back injury that is, his nerves irritating him and these can be longer-term.

There does remain a possibility of him not returning this season.

Rangers go into Celtic clash with an injury crisis

Gers are already without Connor Goldson, Oscar Cortes and Danilo for the rest of the season as they’re ruled out with injuries.

Ridvan Yilmaz may also not be back and there’s a serious doubt of Ryan Jack returning again this season as well.

Ben Davies may have to play alongside John Souttar should Balogun not recover in time.
