Rangers could face fight as Alexander Smith update emerges amid Arsenal links

Rangers could face a challenge to get Alexander Smith to sign a professional contract amid interest from Arsenal and others, according to Football Scotland.

The news outlet reported on 6 May that the Gunners were open to shelling out six figures to secure the services of the 15-year-old attacking midfielder over the summer.

The Athletic’s Tom Bogert claimed on 6 May that the Ibrox outfit appear close to tying him down to a deal and successfully fending off interest.

The Football Scotland report reads: “The highly-rated left footer is a Scotland/United States dual national and is capped for both nations at youth level. He has reportedly been tracked by the Gunners for some time and they were said to be ready to offer a six-figure compensation fee in the summer to take him south.

“But the Light Blues now look set to tie Smith down by giving him his first professional contract.

“The interested clubs are said to be still pushing though so the Ibrox side could face a fight to keep their man.”

Rangers must do everything they can to keep Smith and not let him join Arsenal

Rangers must offer a competitive professional contract that not only reflects Smith’s current value but also demonstrates their long-term commitment to his development.

A well-structured contract that includes performance-based incentives and a clear pathway to first-team football could be crucial in convincing the teenager to stay.

Gers must also look to emphasise the advantages of staying in Scotland, such as the opportunity to play in the Scottish Premiership and the chance to continue representing the national team at the youth level.

The club should highlight the success stories of young players who have progressed through the Gers academy and gone on to have successful careers.

The Ibrox outfit must ensure that Smith feels valued and supported within the club.

This can be achieved by providing top-level coaching, facilities, and opportunities for personal development.

A strong relationship with the coaching staff and a sense of belonging within the team can also play a significant role in convincing Smith to stay.
