Rangers close in on Alexander Smith contract ahead of Premier League giants
Rangers are closing in on the signing of teenage sensation Alexander Smith ahead of Premier League competition to his first professional deal, according to Tom Bogert.
Writing on his personal X account (6 May), The Athletic journalist reports the 15-year-old is set to sign his first professional contract at Ibrox this summer.
No deal is officially done yet with some MLS and Premier League clubs still pushing for the signature of the Scottish/United States dual-national, with Arsenal linked earlier this year, but a deal is close.
Rangers to secure a major transfer coup
Smith is regarded as an incredible young talent and at just 15, the future of the Ibrox club is bright right now.
When clubs like Arsenal are said to be sniffing around it will never be easy for Rangers to compete financially, but it’s clear there is a project in place that is attracting this level of talent.
The 15-year-old starred at the East Mallorca Cup in Spain last April, picking up four Man of the Match awards in five games and there is no telling how high this young player’s ceiling is.
With Zeb Jacobs leaving as the head of the academy there were concerns that the pathway could suffer in the coming months, but that isn’t the case and this is a major statement of intent.
Rangers are getting a stunning young talent to stick around, beating off all sorts of competition to get him too, and don’t be surprised to see him in the first-team in the coming years.
