Rabbi Matondo teases injury update for Rangers showdown v Celtic at Parkhead
Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo says he is in line to make a comeback from injury against Celtic on 11 May in the next Old Firm derby at Parkhead.
Matondo curled home a stoppage-time equaliser to secure a 3-3 draw for Rangers in the most recent clash between the two Glasgow rivals and he has told The Daily Record that he could feature for the first time in three games this weekend.
The Gers face Celtic in a season-defining derby with a three-point gap between themselves and their biggest rivals in the Scottish Premiership table, making it a must-win for Philippe Clement’s side.
Matondo said: “We’ll see, that’s the aim. We’re just ticking boxes this week and if involved I’ll look forward to (the match).”
On his goal, Matondo said: “If I could score another like that it would be unbelievable. (The title race) is a nice pressure and where we want to be, albeit we’d like to have more points.
“It’s where we aspire to be and everyone is relishing the challenge.”
Rabbi Matondo may make the difference for Rangers v Celtic
Clement will be relishing the prospect of Matondo being fit enough to feature in this weekend’s game against Celtic, particularly after his contribution last time out.
Matondo’s curling strike from just inside the box completed the second of two quick-fire comebacks to make it 3-3 at Ibrox, just minutes after Abdallah Sima and Adam Idah had traded late goals.

If the Welsh international does make his return at Parkhead on 11 May, he could be the difference maker for a Rangers side who simply have to win against their Old Firm rivals, if they’re to have any real prospect of overtaking them at the top of the Premiership.
Clement’s side were 2-1 down when Matondo entered the fray after 69 minutes in his most recent appearance at Ibrox, and if he makes another late cameo for the Gers, Celtic will be on high alert for another bolt from the light blue.
