Keith Jackson hits out at Cyriel Dessers in Daily Record after Rangers win v Kilmarnock
Keith Jackson has slammed Cyriel Dessers as the striker failed to score during Rangers’ 4-1 victory over Kilmarnock on Sunday (5 May).
Kilmarnock took an early lead thanks to a James Tavernier own goal, and it looked to be one of those days at Ibrox when the captain had his spot-kick saved just 12 minutes later.
However, a Joe Wright red card changed the complexion of the game completely as Fabio Silva, Ben Davies, Tom Lawrence and John Souttar overturned the one-goal deficit, no thanks to Dessers.
Writing for the Daily Record on Monday (6 May), Jackson said: “When Hearts were throwing down a fairly robust challenge [v Celtic], they had the attacking quality in the final third to pick Steven Naismith’s side off at the other end.
“By contrast, when Rangers find themselves in moments of desperate need, they have Cyriel Dessers.
“The big Nigerian gives his all but very often that’s simply not good enough and the howls of frustration would have been ringing in his ears all the way home yesterday afternoon after dropping a collection of trademark clangers all over Kilmarnock’s penalty box.”

Despite reaching 20 goals for the Gers this season, and coming on leaps and bounds under Philippe Clement, his performances still leave a lot to be desired.
The Killie display is another case of this, having struggled to make any positive impact at Ibrox on Sunday despite lasting 90 minutes on the pitch, playing against 10 men for the majority of it.
Up against Stuart Findlay and Lewis Mayo, the Nigerian forward was almost non-existent in the final third, losing 100 per cent of his ground duels (0/2) and 100 per cent of his aerial duels (0/3). [FotMob]
Luckily for Clement, Silva was the unlikely hero as he fired his team back onto even terms just before the half-time whistle, fighting back against the heavy criticism in recent weeks.

Injuries certainly have not helped fuel Rangers’ attack this season, with Abdallah Sima, Rabbi Matondo, Oscar Cortes and Danilo all still sidelined, though the latter is nearing a return.
Ahead of the summer transfer window, the Ibrox side will likely be on the lookout for a new striker as Dessers continues to be slammed for his performances.
In other Rangers news, a regular Clement starter is now going to sign a deal to leave the club.
