BBC pundits blast ‘farcical’ Rangers v Kilmarnock incident as ‘carnage’ ensues at Ibrox
An offside incident early on in Rangers’ 4-1 win at Ibrox against Kilmarnock has been issued with scathing criticism by BBC pundits Steven Thompson and Stuart McCall.
The duo, covering the contest on BBC Radio Scotland [5 May, 1:08pm] were bemused by the chaos that ensued when Mohammed Diomande won a tackle with Killie’s Stuart Findlay, the ball breaking to Cyriel Dessers in an offside position.
After a potential foul and penalty shout inside the area, John Lundstram fired the ball into the back of the net, but referee David Dickinson eventually acknowledged his assistant’s offside call against Dessers.
“That was carnage,” said Thompson.
“It did look to me like it could’ve been a penalty kick, then it took [Dessers] an age to get his shot off.”
McCall added: “He’s two yards offside, though. Now they have to check it was offside. It’s farcical.”
How huge was Rangers’ win v Kilmarnock at Ibrox?
Rangers have kept themselves within touching distance of Celtic with that win.
While winning all of their remaining games in the Scottish Premiership might not still be enough to secure the title, you’d imagine that a win against Celtic next week to draw level on points with them would put the frighteners on Brendan Rodgers’ lot and the fire in the bellies of the Light Blues.
It was a hard-fought win over Kilmarnock.
The opening exchanges – as McCall said – were farcical with VAR spending just about every minute they could assessing straightforward decisions.
James Tavernier’s own goal and missed penalty didn’t help but Fabio Silva came to the rescue to score a pivotal goal just before halftime.

That put the Light Blues en route to a 4-1 win against a team that’s done well against the Old Firm this season.
It was a big result – but now it’s time to focus on getting the biggest result of them all.
